The 85th Annual Academy Awards Nominations

by
Julien Faddoul

Happy Christmas morning everyone! I hope everybody enjoys their presents!

BEST PICTURE

Like last year, they decided to go with 9. I missed Amour and Beasts of the Southern Wild, neither of which were shockers. I had decided to predict an almost shut-out for Beasts. Big mistake.

·         Amour – TBD

·         Argo – Grant Heslov, Ben Affleck, George Clooney

·         Beasts of the Southern Wild – Dan Janvey, Josh Penn, Michael Gottwald

·         Django Unchained – Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin, Pilar Savone

·         Les Miserables – Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Debra Hayward, Cameron Mackintosh

·         Life of Pi – Gil Netter, Ang Lee, David Womark

·         Lincoln – Steven Spielberg, Kathleen Kennedy

·         Silver Linings Playbook – Donna Gigliotti, Bruce Cohen, Jonathan Gordon

·         Zero Dark Thirty – Mark Boal, Kathryn Bigelow, Megan Ellison

BEST DIRECTOR

3/5. The most shocking category of the morning. I missed Haneke and Zeitlin for Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow. Bigelow's exclusion I can understand due to the negative reaction many people are having to the politics in the movie, but Affleck's snub is completely baffling to me. It's got to be the biggest surprise in this category in at least a decade. At least I called Russell.

·         Amour – Michael Haneke

·         Beasts of the Southern Wild – Benh Zeitlin

·         Life of Pi – Ang Lee

·         Lincoln – Steven Spielberg

·         Silver Linings Playbook – David O. Russell

·         The Master – Philip Seymour Hoffman

·         Silver Linings Playbook – Robert de Niro
