For a presentation of bravura techniques and tranquil replications that beguiled the senses and made one feel lucky to be alive, if for no other reason than to see movies like this.

For a such delicious piece to decipher. A satire of the media that can be interpreted in many ways and, like A Face in the Crowd and Network before it, will only grow greater with age.

For one of the greatest portraits of kinship entangled ever committed to film. Our lives are not our own; we share them with everyone else and that, at its most essential, is love.

1. The Wind Rises

For one of the most honest movies ever made, and maybe the greatest cinematic bemoan to the exploitation of beauty. Made by the world's greatest living filmmaker and the greatest animator we've ever known, The Wind Rises is why I go to the movies. As long as we are graced with the beauty of the cinema, the wind will always be rising and we must try to live.
