5. Inherent Vice – David Crank
For Kubrickesque cinematic detail to the point of wooziness.


4. Why Don’t You Play in Hell – Hisao Inagaki
For an intricate jungle gym for his cast and director to play in.


3. Big Hero 6 – Paul Felix
For San Fransokyo; a rapturous creation. Felix is one of the most underrated designers working today. Special shout out to Scott Watanabe, Jin Kim, Shiyoon Kim and the rest of the Disney Vis Dev team.


2. The Immigrant – Happy Massee
For adding so much and for understanding the difference between old and classic.


1. The Grand Budapest Hotel – Adam Stockhausen
For creating a whole world of magic as a corrective to the real one.
